Cod sandwich on Rye. House made tartar sauce and a Yuengling. Best fish sandwich in a long time.

The wife is at her boxing class, so I made a lasagna. Everything should be done by the time she gets back.

Boxing class? I'm guessing everything had better be done by the time she gets back.

Tonight is stuffed cabbage. Last night was shrimp, snow crab, lobster tail and brisket with steamed. squash. The desert was even better including pumpkin cheesecake, apple pie and coconut custard pie.

LOL. It's not really that kinda class. Has boxing elements in it, but mostly tons of strength training. By the time she gets back she is beat to exhaustion. I'm pretty safe!

Took myself out for Chinese at First Wok. Hot & sour soup, egg roll, crab cheese, and Kung Pau shrimp with fried rice with an endless pot of tea.

Hamburger Steak with Scalloped Potatoes.  Still on a comfort food kick.  When I first came to town/fell off the turnip truck from a small Texas town, hamburger steak sounded like a pretty fancy meal , and I ordered frequently.  I was looking through Lost Restaurants of Houston by Paul and Christiane Galvani and came across menus of two of my regulars back then, Alfred's Delicatessen in the Village and One's a Meal Sandwich Shops, which had multiple locations.  Both had hamburger steaks on the menu and hamburger steak sandwiches.  This was before burgers grew so popular that every restaurant has a separate section of the menu devoted just to burgers, I guess.

Two nights earlier, fried rice with shrimp.  I was too lazy to add vegetables and forgot about adding egg.  It was good.  Earlier in the week, I tried fried rice with canned fancy white albacore tuna.  Probably won't be doing that one again.

I used my Instapot again.  I made a pork roast with red potatoes, carrots, celery and onion.  I ate just the roast.

A favorite of mine growing up in the '50s. Mom made it with homemade pasta. You've given me an idea for the near future!

Persian cucumbers.  I ordered a Greek Salad and they were the only edible component.  Who puts Frisee in a Greek Salad?  Where was the lettuce?  Another case of missing Kalamata Olives!  They seemed to replace the olives with minute capers.  I've never seen capers so small.

Making room in the freezer - using up leftovers, bits and pieces, etc.:

Split pea soup, with ham - not home-made.
Spinach and herb tortilla/wrap, toasted and buttered.
A few pieces of cheese and spinach ravioli, lightly toasted in a skillet.
Patti Labelle's Buttermilk Pie

Good looking sub and that cod at Cunningham's up above stops me cold every time I scroll past it.  Gotta find something like that around here.

Hot dog tonight.  HEB Old World (Beef) Frankfurter (natural casing), split-top brioche style bun from Aldi (my go to hot dog bun for a couple of months), Nathan's mustard and chopped white onions.  Ranch Style beans on the side.  I used to love those things.

HEB must offer a couple dozen wieners under their various store brands; this is the only one with natural casing.  I didn't believe it until I saw it myself.  7/12; I think it was $5.  Too small for the bun, though.

I know better. If I get out of work too late for good pizza delivery, I should just hit a drive thru. Or starve. I may still starve. I ordered Domino's, because they were open. I didn't think it was possible for their pizza to be worse than it was 20 years ago, but I was wrong. Also, they charged me for dipping sauces and didn't give them to me, and refused to answer the phone when I called, so I contacted corporate. It's only a couple of bucks, but it's mine. Plus I was annoyed by the awful pizza.

Tomorrow I cook!
