They all look great!  I have always made individual ones.  Why?  My mother did it that way!

Ham loaf is something I never really got on board with. More than likely because my New England Mom never made it. Having lived in Des Moines and now in Wisco, It is VERY popular in both those places. I guess I need to give it another shot.

Those ham loaves look great. Is ham loaf basically meatloaf but with ham? Recipes, perhaps? Thanks.

I was making such a small portion that I used my toaster oven.  Got a little too close to the glaze but it was still delicious.

Ham loaf recipe:
Equal amounts of ground ham and ground pork.  I usually do 1lb. of each.

2 eggs
about 1/2 C crushed corn flakes.  Yes.  corn flakes.  Don't substitute bread crumbs!
about 1 Tsp. grated onion
1 T chopped parsley
S&P

Mix all together like meatloaf.  I shape mine into 6 small loaves and bake at 350 for about 45 mins.  After 30 mins. of baking I glaze them with a mixture of ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar and a little water.

I'm a native Midwesterner and don't think I've ever had ham loaf, although I've seen it occasionally on menus.

What I can't understand is why people would take a perfectly good piece of ham and grind it up in the first place...

Because after eating dinner after dinner after dinner of baked ham you have to do SOMETHING with the rest!  So you make ham and bean soup and ham loaf!  Geeze.  How hard is that?  It's MUCH better than meatloaf!

Ham loaf over ham sandwiches, scalloped potatoes & ham, and ham pieces furtively nabbed from the fridge??  No way!

At our house leftover ham never lasted long enough to suffer such an undignified fate.

Taste a good ham loaf and then tell me how terrible you think it is.

I never said it was terrible.

But the loaf is the Skid Row of meat.  It's the place where cuts unwanted in their normal state go to be disposed of via the grinder.  There's nothing left for them, they have no future, they won't hold a place of honor on the dinner plate...no, their insufficiencies and defectiveness will be homogenized into a generalization of failure, desperation, and hopelessness.  With Heinz Chili Sauce on top.

And ham doesn't deserve that.

Gee, I don't know about all that. When I make meat loaf I grind up beef strip loin and pork loin. The ham lleechef uses is the same ham we've been eating sliced. So, I'd say there are some fine cuts of meat that go through the grinder. Ah, but I see. There's no chicken.
