Wow!  That looks wonderful.  I cannot understand why they put the potatoes on the plate.  But I would eat it in a heartbeat.

Thought I'd try the new Polish place around the corner today since I had 90 minutes to kill between appointments and didn't feel like going home. Fabulous!! Golabki with red potatoes in tomato sauce, kielbasa with kapusta, potato pancakes, and 3 pierogi (2 cheese/potato, 1 pork/onion/cheese). I'm getting two dinners out of it.

Boy, I'd love that meal. I don't know whether I could finish it, but I sure would love to try.

A Sam's Southern Eatery opened in Mt. Pleasant, Texas (a 21 mile drive one way for me). My Daughter and I went yesterday. She had a crawfish poboy with fries and I had a 3 catfish 3 shrimp combo with red beans and rice and green beans. The catfish and red beans were great, My Daughter's poboy was great. I had leftovers tonight as my meal was delivered with 4 catfish fillets and 4 huge shrimp.

I was supposed to go to La Scala tonight for dinner.
I'm supposed to go to Scott Conant's The Ponte tomorrow night but I need to get my blood pressure up.  It's been in the 70s/50s for the past few days.

So...  I had Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup.

The guy sent me a recipe a while back he calls "Easiest, Laziest Chili". I tweaked it some because that's what I do, but it is indeed easy and lazy. It's also very tasty. I have to make it milder than I'd like because mom doesn't do spicy, but that's easily fixed by the bowl. Best part, it's the first time I've made a beef-based red chili that was worth a darn... mine uses venison, and I can never seem to get the spices right.

We're also having chili on this seriously cold night. No beans in ours, though. I use Carrol Shelby's chili mix. It's a great blend of spices and I can make it any level of heat I desire. We're going with mild, as my daughter has an aversion to spicy foods, too.

Re: What's For DINNER ...??? 2018/01/16 19:37:17 (permalink)
His recipe:
2 lbs ground meat - your choice or mix 'em up
1/2 lb Mexican Chorizo pork sausage
1/2 large onion, diced (more if you like)
1 Tbsp minced garlic (more if you like)
2 14oz cans beans, drained & rinsed (I like black beans [lower carbs], but use what you like)
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can tomato sauce
Cayenne, or crushed red pepper or hot sauce, if desired.
Shredded cheese, if desired.

Stove top:
Brown meat & sausage (removed from casing) in a large pot. Do it in batches and set aside each batch when its all done.
Brown onion. when it's just about done, add the garlic and brown that.
Put the meat back in the pot, along with the beans, tomatoes, and sauce.
Spices as you desire.
Simmer for at least an hour, stirring occasionally. The longer this cooks, the better it gets.

Slow Cooker:
Brown meat, onions, and garlic. in a skillet. Put each batch into the slow cooker as it's done. Add beans, tomatoes, and sauce. Cook on low for 3 hours or more.
Serve topped with cheese, if that suits you.

Thank you Felix ....  getting the ingredients tomorrow and making it for this weekend ! I'll use Gebhardt's chili powder, cumin and a "pinch" of hot curry powder as my spices.  Love the smokey background that the curry imparts in chili.

You're welcome! I made a bunch of changes because I didn't feel like going to the store in the snow, ice, and cold.
1 1/2 pounds ground beef, browned with a tablespoon of bacon grease
1 whole onion (about 3/4 cup)
6 cloves garlic instead of a tablespoon minced
1 can black beans, 1 can chili beans (undrained)
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste + 1 1/2 cups water instead of tomato sauce
For seasoning I used a packet of McCormick original chili seasoning, 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon smoked tomato seasoning, 1 teaspoon cumin, and 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning.
The cheese I used is a "three state" blend. Wisconsin, Vermont, and New York cheddar.
To my bowl I added several dashes of Tapatio for heat.
