I'm having two dinners today, because I wanted to try the new Ramen place while I was on the other end of town for appointments and shopping. Sapporo Ramen & Noodle Bar, their Grand Rapids location. The interior reminded me of Pot Belly, with a counter where you order and pick up, fountain drinks you fill yourself, and a small number of tables and booths. The music selection was making me laugh; they were on a Spotify station playing rap with very questionable lyrics.

I got fried gyoza and butter corn shoyu. The gyoza were tasty and crispy and clearly freshly made, while the ponzu sauce was pretty much pure salt. The shoyu was an incredibly huge bowl, that had I not been starving I could easily have either shared or taken home for a second meal (as it was, I've got enough left to be part of tomorrow's lunch). The broth was very tasty, and the butter added to serve made it even better. The noodles I swear were spaghetti, not ramen. The corn was clearly frozen kernels. The piece of nori was grainy and squidgy, if that makes sense. Overall, I'd give it a solid 2.5 out of 5. I surely won't go out of my way to go back, but if I happen to be in the general vicinity again I'll probably stop.

Dinner #2: I actually cooked! It's mom's 82nd birthday (I also bought a chocolate cake at Trader Joe's because I forgot to make one).

Pollock fillets poached in garlic-lemon butter, shrimp and pasta salad, and green bean salad.

Similar here, although yours looks like it could be a flat or round cut and we had the point.  Also, no root vegetables or cabbage, just boiled (separately) baby reds and corn.

Corned beef sandwiches for lunch today!

My sister brought goulash for mom's birthday, so we had that with leftover shrimp pasta salad and green bean salad.

Haddock!  Looks beautiful, Lisa.

I just bought some frozen smoked Haddock and some time in the future I will make Finnan Haddie.  Mom used to make it when my grandparents were living so it's been a very long time.  All I remember is she simmered it in milk.  Maybe potatoes were involved.

Tonight I had chicken wings from Wing Stop.  I was stuck on the 405 for an hour due to a police pursuit.  When I finally inched up to an offramp I used it.  I had a choice of Chuckie Cheese (As if), McDonald's and Wing Stop where I'd never been before.

I won't be returning.

I put a corned beef brisket point in the smoker with some apple wood, it came out heavenly! Some of the leftovers will be made into hash for breakfast.

That's it. As soon as I get my next show check I'm blowing off paying extra on my medical bills and making gumbo. That looks amazing!

I'm reheating corned beef & cabbage and whatnot tonight.

For how stupid this was, it certainly was tasty! Pierogi casserole, side of microwaved frozen vegetable blend. Perfect for a day that started with a funeral and ended with scrambling to get payroll submitted on time.

My favorite pantry dinner.  Sauté Some onion with a little oil and butter. Add 2 cans of tuna fish, cook until you can smell the fish cooking.  Add one can mushroom soup and one can "Blue Lake" cut green beans. If it is too thick add a little milk.  A few grinds of pepper and a sprinkle of curry powder.  Serve on a bed of white rice.  GOOD STUFF

I wasn't paying attention and overcooked the fusilli.   But it still tasted good.  I didn't even pick out the tomatoes.

Mar, you've been having fabulous food and I'm jealous!

ChrisOC, I've noted that down... sounds like something I could quick throw together after work one night!

Today I made beef and barley soup, although I didn't actually get any of it until a little after 10pm when I finally got home so mine was reheated. Still tasty!

Felix, that's one of my favorite soups.  It's in the 80s here so I'm not ready to heat up the kitchen.

Went to Dinah's for dinner and decided on something I'd been eyeing for probably 15 years...  Eggs Benedict.  Dinah's is a diner known for their fried chicken.  But tonight I thought... It's still on their menu.  I'll give it a try.

They put a thick ham steak over the English muffin halves with spinach and mushrooms.  Not the best (the Hollandaise broke a little), but certainly not horrible.  They served it with three pancakes which I did not eat.

Next time... chicken and waffles!

Tonight's dinner was even more filling and I have a Seder tomorrow.  I'm already stuffed!

I went to dinner with my sister-in-law's aunt and uncle who I call Auntie Betty and Uncle Zev. I am older than they are.

I paid no attention to where we were other than a strip mall on a major street in Granada Hills. I don't even know the name of the place but I'd sure go back.

It's a Persian restaurant and I had the #21 with the special sour cherry basmati rice. Who ever knew that chicken and rice could be wonderful?  That's more rice on top which I figure was cooked with saffron.  Just a tasty garnish!
