Lee, I really think they took cooked basmati and stirred in an entire can of pitted sour cherries, juice and all.  Or they cooked the rice in the cherry juice.  Whichever.. it was fabulous.

Yesterday I made a pot of beef soup but added too much barley, so I wound up with what could accurately be called Meat Porridge.

We've been fighting colds this week so no Easter dinner for us.  Just a grilled skirt steak tonight.

Tonight's menu:
Baked ham w/raisin sauce
Mashed potatoes
Steamed asparagus
Coconut custard pie
Down the road: leftover ham, ham sandwiches, fried ham and eggs, scalloped ham and potatoes, ham salad, and the final round, Split pea soup.
(I got a shank portion for 77 cents a lb!)

Easter dinner was a challenge since our kitchen is out of commission for another six weeks.  I manged to do a ham (grill), sweet potato casserole (toaster oven) and shredded brussel sprouts (induction burner).  Not bad if I do say so myself!

Easier than cooking in this right now:

You did a great job of working with the available resources!

Just out of curiosity, who was President the last time the kitchen was painted?

Ha!  Actually we have had it painted twice since we moved in 17 years ago.  You can still see a strip of the awful apple wallpaper that was up when we moved in.  We painted it once to yellow and once to a light green.  it didn't look bad with the horrible purple laminate countertops and light wood cabinets that we had.   I think the new color will be a nice clean white or very light grey.  Where the wallpaper strip ends in the picture is where there was a wall between the kitchen and dining room.  Now it's just going to be one big room.

I'm going to Hell.  St. Louis Pork ribs with potato Kugel.

These ribs were from Costco and they're very good.  I like ribs made with just a rub.  Then you can add sauce if you want.

It has been a million years since I had a pasty!

Tonight I stopped at my favourite Kalamazoo Chinese place on my way home from the theatre. Hot & sour soup, egg roll, steamed dumplings, crab rangoon, and a pot of tea for $15.50 including tax. Hunan Gardens

Last night I was making mini pigs in the blanket and taco dip for a birthday party today, so dinner consisted of a little taco dip, some unheated Li'l Smokies, a nubbin or 2 of cheddar, some black olives, some peanuts, and some pepperoni I had in the fridge.  The last 2 were not part of the ingredients lists.

Everything sounds great. I made omelettes tonight. I used roasted Hatch chiles, onion, bell pepper, tomato, zucchini and home grown eggs. I seasoned it all with Mexican spices while cooking. they turned out really good.

Took myself to Hunan Gardens again for the exact same meal of appetizers for my birthday dinner after I got out of the theatre. This working days and leaving when the show starts is weird, but I'm getting used to it.

Cooked up a veggie pasta dish. Pasta with sauted portabella mushrooms, spinach, garlic, and a little mozzarella cheese. Was very good!

To celebrate the end of a two-week show driving an hour each way (and through snow, sleet, and an ice storm this weekend), I took myself to Sheshco Grill for the first time in a while. I got the lamb combo because it's fabulous, a ridiculous amount of Yemeni tea, and sat there with my book long enough to want dessert so they gave me some free rice pudding with bananas topped with (I think) gingersnap crumbs.

I went to an amazing place for dinner last night.  Looking at the menu I was not happy with going there.

It turned out to be a sort of Fusion Middle East restaurant.

The Exchange in Downtown Los Angeles.

Uni to be spread on a flatbread.

The flatbread topped with za'atar, olive oil and sesame seeds

A chili and harissa condiment

Thick Greek type of yogurt, sauteed artichoke hearts, mint and black sesame seeds.

Mixed Pickles

Avocado salad which was extra good! Not sure what the seeds were but they were delicious with the citrus sauce and feta.

The citrus salad is hiding under the thinly sliced radish

OMG GOOD! Whole fried Branzino with what I would call a Thai chili sauce, bbq flavored coating. The fins were like potato chips!

Lamb sausage kebob with charred cauliflower, beans and some sort of sauce. Outstanding!

We also had a Flat rice noodle in peanut sauce with spinach and crunchies in it but I never got a picture.

The food was served family style.

I could live on that fish and the fresh pitas smeared with the harissa.
