At noon we're having burgers and hot dogs with potato chips, chips & salsa and pasta salad.  Fruit for those who want it.

Tonight I'm grilling a couple of pork ribeye roasts for dinner and lunches/leftovers through the week.  Mashed potatoes and gravy on the side, so there may be some pork Manhattans through the week as well.

Ms NQV!  Glad you redeemed yourself.

Tonight's meal is Southern inspired.  Ham, Field Peas AKA here as tiny Black Eyed Peas, pseudo King's Hawaiian rolls and fresh corn.  Maybe I'll take a picture, maybe I won't.  Who knows?  (heh heh)

In sticking with the pork theme, I kicked off my barbecue season later than usual by smoking a couple racks of baby-back ribs on my Weber Smokey Mountain.

I did a dinner of salads, because it's too darn hot to do anything other than poach chicken or boil pasta (both of which I did at about 3am before I went to bed). Bell pepper salad, ranch pasta salad, and tarragon chicken salad with cranberries.

Yesterday we fired up the Weber and grilled cheeseburgers, dry rubbed riblets and chicken wings. ( the last two my favorites) Served with the meat we had ranch pasta salad, sliced potatoes made with onion soup mix and butter ( done in foil on the grill) and fresh strawberries. Such a welcome change!

I'm not sure I'd even need sides with that array of meat.

Re:What's For Dinner TONIGHT...??? 2018/05/29 11:31:39 (permalink)
It was gray and bleak in CT yesterday so I made oven fried chicken (not for the diet conscious since it uses 1.5 sticks of butter and yes, you read that right) along with my version of vegetable fried rice which I love and a broccoli casserole since I had the oven on anyway. The casserole contained just a bit of cheese (to go with the butter) and so this was a comfort food fest for sure. I have a lot of left overs but am afraid to indulge that much two days in a row so am freezing the chicken for another day. It came out fantastic. I never made this before but saw it on Sara Moulton's show and it has 5 ingredients or less as did all of the dishes made that day on the show.
The five ingredients are below:
Butter
Garlic
Parmesan Cheese
fresh bread crumbs
lemon zest

Salt, pepper and a touch of cayenne don't count. It has a really nice flavor. Will never beat real down home southern fried chicken but a nice sub if you don't feel like standing at the stove frying chicken.

Those ribs look fantastic!
Felix, your pepper steak also looked fabulous
Pasta aglio e olio is one of my favorites Michael Hoffman. Spicy sausage on the side sounds perfect.

phlmaestro- that may sound like a lot of meat, but it wasn't. There were only 4 riblets, 5 chicken wings and several cheeseburgers. I like leftovers, so I didn't eat a lot the 1st time around.

Tonight we had a special membership meeting to present members with 10+ years of service with pins in 5-year increments. I got my 20! And then after the meeting, we had a catered taco bar with various soft drinks. Pretty good all the way around!

I've been hearing about Joan's on Third for years.  More so I've been hearing about the short rib sandwich.

Well today was the day.  Except for the Arugula and over greasiness it was a very good sandwich.  Lots of meat!

The pickles were freshly made sweet pickles and they were excellent.

Twenty years!  That's GREAT, Felix! Congratulations!

TACOS!  NQV, my favorite meal.

The description of my sandwich on Joan's menu:

Short Rib — 15.95

with melted jack cheese and sweet red onions on country white bread

I would have asked for them to leave the arugula off of the sandwich.  i ate it on the half I ate there and pulled it off the half I ate at home.  For me it was much better without it.

Something as prominent as that arugula should be mentioned....  I think.  Again, Excellent sandwich!

lleechef didn't feel like eating so I had a can of King Oscar brisling sardines, a can of kippered herring, sliced onions and a ton of olive oil, some salt and pepper, plus some bread for sopping. I loved it. It's been a very long time since I last had that as a meal. I'd have posted a picture, but a plate like that is not a pretty sight.

Hi Mar52,

Strange they don't mention the arugula. It's a pretty significant part of the deal!

Nope. The cats prefer lleechef's grilled salmon.

That sounds good.  Maybe add a can of smoked baby clams on the side?

Never thought of that. Good Idea. I was going to add a can of oil-packed Italian tuna, but that might have resulted in mayhem from lleechef.
