In heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here. Pretty soon it will be, there is no sauerbraten in Milwaukee...

Sad day.

You'll have to move to Columbus because WE HAVE SAUERBRATEN!  Also Bahama Mamas!  And fabulous potato cakes!

If you still had the Kahiki (circa 1962) I would do it!

They sold it, and it was torn down to make way for a Walgreens. Honest.

Milwaukee's Von Trier is closing. It's going to close with a sale on all its German artifacts and re-open as a "mid century upscale cocktail lounge. Its menu has already been scrubbed from its webpage. The gallery of its beautiful interior remain. http://www.vontriers.com/     http://www.jsonline.com/story/money/business/retail/2017/08/15/german-flavored-drinking-spot-von-trier-close-reopen-cocktail-lounge/569255001/

Very sad.  Dad and I stopped there once on recommendation of a friend (even before I was a Contingent member).  We were in awe of the incredible dark wood, Teutonic ambiance.  Unfortunately, we were looking primarily for food and Von Trier is strictly an old school bar; bowls of popcorn and nuthin' else.  We would've stayed if we weren't bushed from a long day of demos.  Unfortunately we were hungry and opted to move on.

How much longer will they be open?  Maybe we'll get a second (last) chance.

They had new owners since you were and had a German menu. They may have already stopped food service but it will be Von Triers until past Christmas.

If they're still serving food we definitely need to set up a Contingent Eat & Greet before they're gone.  Assuming I'm not working, count us in any time!

I love going here. http://www.schnitzelbank.com/
When I go , I go all the way , we usually have to stay the night. I have a hard time remembering the Octoberfest from years past. Lots of great food , large servings , great beer , Great music and a drunk Hoosier on the dance floor.

That's a fine looking menu Groucho.  If I was ever in the neighborhood, I'd stop in.  Gotta say though, there's something unsettling about the appearance of that plate of sausages on their home page, especially when juxtaposed against the picture of the Frauleins on the right.
