Willard Hotel in Butler Pennsylvania

Do any of you Keystone Staters remember this place at all?
A friend's mother was the chef there long ago. I figure if anyone remembers, it would be here.

I live 20 minutes south of Butler, but do not remember it.  How long ago did it close?  Let me ask around since I have plenty of coworkers who grew up in Butler.

I lived fairly near Butler from 1962 - 69, but we never visited the "downtown", instead bypassing it on US 422 where we ate often at a "Butler Landmark", the Garden Gate Restaurant which featured KFC on an AYCE buffet.

That was 'back in the day' before the Colonel went the fast-food route and was only licensing his recipe and brand to independent restaurants like Garden Gate and Morgan's where we used to live.  In fact, that was so far back that McDonald's were relatively rare and their changeable signs counted the 'number sold' by just millions.  I remember that figure being as low as 5,000,000!

Guess I'm getting old, but it surely does not feel that way!

By any chance was the demolition due to a rat problem?
