I know a lot of people don't share my feelings, but I LOVE breakfast at Waffle House ( lunch and dinner, not so much. ) A couple of weeks ago, I had breakfast at the Harrison Ohio WH ( near Cincy ),
and the country ham that I had was great, almost in the same class as what I've had down in North Carolina. The food isn't the only thing I love about breakfast at Waffle House. In the morning, a Waffle House takes on the atmosphere of a small-town cafe. Groups of locals sit around BS-ing and gossiping while fueling up on waffles and ham and hashbrowns ( and coffee of course. ) The usually-friendly waitresses greeting you with a big "Hi Hon!" really add to the small-town feel. You've got love those wonderfully goofy Waffle House songs on the jukebox too.

Hey, the Waffle House has that same feeling at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Good people. Good food. Good times.

Except for the lunch and dinner thing, I agree with you completely about Waffle House. My experiences with those two meals have ranged from pretty good to downright lousy, so nowadays I limit my Waffle House visits to breakfast only ( but that's just me. ) Out of all the many WH breakfasts I've had, I only remember one that I would call a disappointment, and that was at a location in NC that had just opened. I fondly remember one WH breakfast in particular; in Evergreen AL several years ago. What makes it stick in my mind is the clientle that morning; the place was wall-to-wall elderly farmers in their overalls and seed company caps. I got a kick out of listening to the conversations about crops, seed hybrids , the weather, sick cows etc. Very small-town America.

Wow!  That sounds like the kind of feeling I get when I go to a Five Guys!

Even though there is a Waffle House no more than a 9-iron from where I teach, I've never been.  I'm going to make it a point to go there for lunch one day next week and I'll post my experience here.

If it's anything like Michael describes - like the Waffle House was in the movie Tin Cup - I'll become a "regular".

I love Waffle HOuse....for all the reasons posted above and that it is an American icon for Highway food. You can always count on it. The fact that they serve more "name brands" than most establsihments is testiment to their convition for quality food.   bkk

I'll choose a WH over Cracker Barrel any day. It's gritty and blue collar, just like I am.

Since posting that I have been to WH twice:  once for breakfast, once for lunch.

And here is my review:  !!!

The bacon was bacon; the eggs were eggs, but the "grilled" biscuits & gravy and the hash browns were beyond excellent.

My cheeseburger was really good, but what put it over the top was the availability of A-1, Heinz 57, Lea & Perrins Steak Sauces, and L&P Worchestershire.  (As a big fan of Evan Williams, I LOVE my sauces).

Thank you, Michael!

Hey, I like this joint so much that I'll treat you to "Five Guys" whenever they open near you.

All that lawyer-driven "CYA" yik-yak they use about "well-done" just means that they cook their fresh ground beef until the internal temp runs 160 which in practice means "until the juice runs clear".

Their burgers are juicy, hot throughout, and delicious.  One can really taste the beef.

WH uses a high-quality pre-formed frozen patty which they thaw then grill.  For a previously frozen product even to mimic the texture and savor of "fresh" it has to be under-done.  But that runs the risk of that of which we burger-lovers ought not speak.

Both burgers are very enjoyable for "what they are".

WH even has a short paragraph of "CYA" on their menu about the dangers of under- cooking.  But these honest folk should know that the worthy principle of "caveat emptor" has been shredded by the tort bar.

May God have mercy on WH's good souls because a jury seduced by a souless bast*rd with a $1,200 haircut will not.

(If you want a FANTASTIC burger come to Dallas and try the "Twisted Root", soon to be featured on Guy Fieri's Food Channel show).

IMHO, Waffle house and Huddle House are birds of a feather. Again, IMHO, Denny's sausage has a strange taste to it and I don't go there for breakfast.

I've had a few good breakfasts at Huddle House, but I don't think theirs are the equal of the ones at Waffle House. My last HH meal was breakfast in Mount Sterling KY last fall; the country ham was quite good but I still prefer that served at Waffle House.

Dang! Another "fine dining" establishment ruined by unruly patrons...at least they weren't screaming iPad addicted toddlers.

Somewhere I posted a thread about breakfast at Waffle House that included a freebie waffle I got for joining their club (usually I won't belong to a club that would have me as a member), but I can't find it anywhere.

Had the all 'the way' hash browns and the free waffle.  I was not in my cups, nor was I unruly.

Sausage gravy on the side.

Beautiful Frederick Maryland.

Next time tell them you want the onions, peppers and ham grilled before being added to the scattered hash browns. Much better that way.

Huh????What does this have to do with anything Ann. Is today the day you decided to attack me in several threads. I like everyone. I don't agree with everything everyone says, but I like them. That's what forums are...But insulting is so easy with a finger and keyboards. I've never said anything bad about you.....but apparently you feel I'm someone who needs "To get over myself" as you pointed out in another threads. There are other threads I've commented on if you'd like to leave more negative comments.....

Who???? I'm unaware of any preferred list. If I agree with certain people that's because I agree with what they said.Period! The agreeing with "peple you want to like you" line was cruel and insulting.
