Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat for 2019 - a clickable list

https://www.yelpblog.com/2019/01/yelps-top-100-places-to-eat-in-the-u-s-2019

If this was a slideshow () I wouldn't have posted it.

But, it is a "clickable" list.

My wife brought it to my attention this morning as the local news reported that a BBQ place only 15 miles from us was #2 on the list.

I guess she didn't want to cook lunch today.

Hmmm … five of the 100 are in the Metroplex, including a French boulangerie / patisserie called "Quixote".  Only in Texas.

The Midwest appears to be a bit under-represented...I guess we're too busy eating to post to Yelp.

It's an interesting list but not only am I pretty unlikely to visit most of the restaurants, I'm pretty unlikely to visit most of the cities and towns as well.

    Close, but …
No, the town to which you refer is Prosper, TX.
Celina is just west of 289, about five miles north of Prosper.

The Dallas North Tollway is extending north, past Prosper and Celina, all the way up to Grayson County.  When that happens, Prosper will be the "new Plano" and Celina will become the "new Frisco".

LOL  Maybe I saw a sign.  Love the way they pronounce CiLighna.

Prosper looked like a brand new city.  Saw it on my way to Sam Moon from Whitesboro.  I think that's where I saw Deion Sanders' house.

I now have to go to the Angel City Grill in Redondo Beach.  It sounds right up my alley!  Can't wait for a falafel burrito!

    Thank you!

    Yes.
    That's where it was.
And, it was quite the tourist attraction.

Unfortunately, Neon Deion and his wife divorced and their spectacular home was liquidated.
Click this and see the incredible listing on Zillow.

As it was right on Preston Road (Rt. 289) the high bidder was a commercial real estate developer who demolished the house and built a shopping center anchored by a Kroger Marketplace.

    As it was:

The developer bought it at auction, planning this:

Here it us, all built and operating.

The whole story is just "so Texas".

WJ, Buffetbuster and a few guys from Chicago could come up with a better list. In fact, I would bet they wouldn't have any of these places on their list......

Jim... well that's horrible!  I did notice the last time there that the newer cities in Texas are looking like Orange County here.

    Back to the restaurants.

Today would have been the perfect day for me to go to The Angel City Grill.  I have a doctor's appointment half way there.  But it's raining.. it's pouring at times.  The people here do not know how to drive when the roads are wet... or dry.

I, agree totally.  Yelp is becoming as much a cesspool of hot-heads, air-heads, a-holes, and hidden agendas as Twitter.  I don't use either.

But, as a local joint that I had passed by several times on my way to enjoy a good breakfast at Lucy's made the list, I posted it, but only after I checked their other glowing notices from Texas Monthly, the Dallas Observer, etc.

And, I really like Cincinnati Chili; served "Three-Way" is my preference.
As for Primanti's, I'll take my fries and slaw on the side.

At least the former Cincinnati Royals are currently only 1/2 game out of a playoff spot...

Who / where are they these days?

I still remember their great teams with Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas, and Adrian Smith.

Few mention it these days, but Oscar Robertson averaged a "triple double" for each game he played during his first five years in the NBA.

Jim, it looks like this is what they go by. It's just misleading when they say the top 100 places to eat. It s/b a list of up-and-coming restaurants on yelp.

    Methodology:
To determine Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in 2017, we looked at the reviews received by businesses in the restaurant and food truck categories, considering both the rating and volume of reviews. Unlike our list from last year, which looked at business performance since the founding of Yelp in 2004, this year we weighed more recent reviews more heavily and reduced the advantage that a business gains by having more reviews. This gives our overall list more of an “up-and-coming” feel, with fewer “famous” restaurants with thousands of reviews, and more hidden gems. We only considered the reviews by the users who are from the same country as the business. Businesses must be primarily a restaurant or place to eat a meal to be included on the list. If a business with multiple locations appears more than once on the list, we keep the highest ranked location and mention the others in a footnote.

Still yet another reason to avoid Yelp.

    Thanks, pnwchef.
