RE: Your First Album
I think one of the first albums I bought on my own was one of Peter, Paul and Mary's. I do know it was a third or fourth issue of one of their original WB albums. For a while, in the mid to late 90's, I went on a vinyl buying frenzy since my mother's vinyl was a) in very bad shape, and b) mono. In that time, I have gotten PPM in stereo with the original labels (gold for the first album through Album 1700 and green with WB or w7 logos) for the others.
I am picky about some things as I buy vinyl, like having original presses and stereo (if recorded that way). I have bought later presses until I could find an original. Voices in Latin (The Four Freshmen) is hard to find. I did get a copy with Capitol's "rainbow" label with the logo on the left until I could find the blue label (found one). The same is true with many others.
When PPM came out on CD, and their material was the first I remember getting on CD, I saw "remixed". I was afraid it was remixed into two channel mono. There was some tightening of the seperation, but the most that happened was the channels were reversed. The tube amp I use can put one channel on both speakers, or reverse stereo. I learned Paul's vocal parts that way, but as I play PPM normally, I still hear Paul more than Peter and Mary.
Since I have taken this thing off topic, I shall end this rant. This rant has been brought to you tonight by HH Scott.
