RE: What do you take to Pot Luck?
At work I was always the "instigator" of potlucks, and now I still go to many.
I have seen the cocktail weenies done several ways with the grape jelly, and mustard is undectable but gives it a good flavor. Some do them just with BBQ sauce also.
For work, anything done in a crockpot is wonderful because it can cook all morning. The aroma DOES tend to disrupt some, though, but in a nice way!
I often make real Mexican rice, or sammiches made from cooked bacon, cream cheese, green onions, and a few surprise ingredients. Never have any left to bring home!
When I am lazy, I go to Church's chicken and buy honey biscuits. I call ahead to order and tell them to make sure you can actually TELL they are drizzled with honey.
When we have potlucks at church our dear retired bishop emeritus would have the secretary order Pizza, his favorite!
And Marie (RIP) always owuld make the asparacus casserole. That is the only way I can stomach asparagus!
I also do a crockpot thang with ground beef, which I cook and drain before heading to work, then at work, fire up the cp and add 2 cans Rotel (with the cilantro/ blue label), two cans cream of chicken soup, two cans cream of shroom soup, minced fresh garlic, and let it cook al morning with the meat.
About 20 mins before serving time, add about a pound or two of grated cheese, and lots of Nacho cheesier Doritos.
It is sorta like cheater's King Ranch Casserole, because I refuse to cook and hand-bone enough chicken to feed that many.
Oh, and not necessarily for potluck, but just as a treat for employees, I woud sometimes buy a byncha huge, ripe aguacates (avocados) (back when they were not so 'spensive) and make a huge bowl of guac with Fritos scoops.
Are ya hungreeee yet?
