RE: Travel:I-95 FL-MA,Ridgeland SC,Rocky Mount NC,
Now that sounds like a trip! I'm envious.
In PA, 81 connects with 84 in Scranton, PA (my home turf). If you want to try something really distinctive---try Old Forge Pizza. It's square pie with sweet sauce and goopey cheese. Take 81 North to the Davis Street/Montage exit (182, I think). Make a left off the exit, then another left just up the hill at Davis St. Take Davis about a mile and a half and make another left just over the bridge at Main Ave.. Then travel about a mile and a half from Taylor into Old Forge. Revello's would be my first choice, it's remarkably consistent. White pizza fans rave about Arcaro and Genell's across the street. These places are only open evenings and closed Sundays. If you need lunch, I've got some other places too.
In Rocky Mount, Bob Melton's BBQ was pretty great when we passed through last summer. It's reviewed in the Roadfood book, but for some reason not on the site. Get the "pig pickin'" dinner (bbq pork---smokey and drier than you might expect---but delicious, mustard cole slaw!, hush puppies---great). Wash it down with Sweet Tea. 501 Mill Rd, Rocky Mount.
