RE: Lobster Rolls
I drove past Ronnies in Auburn, MA today. It was Tuesday so they were closed, but the sign said that the summer, Wednesday lobster roll deal is back. The grilled roll (it looks like 1/4 lb but they don't advertise it as such) with cold lobster, fries (average) and slaw costs $11 this year. A few years ago, the paper said that they use over 100 lbs of lobster on a Wednesday, so that is a lot of lobster rolls!!! It is an outstanding roll, but the one at FF chain, PaPa Gino's is just as good. They charge 11.99, but give a 10% senior disc. PaPa Gino is sandwich only,,,,,no fries or slaw, and they serve it every day, from early April to Columbus Day weekend.
Speaking of Ronnies, I have not made it there this season. I am really in need of some outstanding fried clams. Other clam places that I tried over the winter are not as good as they used to be. The fact is that you can't sell cheap clams, so why try??? If a clam dinner costs the better part of a car payment, what is another$3 to $5 , so that the clam shack can buy the best clams? I am confident that when I get to Ronnies, the clams will be expensive, but fairly priced, and will perfectly wonderful to eat.
