Back when I was in college at East Central Junior College in Decatur, Mississippi, I was on the food plan when entitled me to have all three meals at the college eatery. I was the usual stuff and back then, it did not include pizza which probably was not invented there yet. It was mostly 1960's stuff like meatloaf,
The result of this is after each meal in the evening we would take a short walk downtown Decatur
which consisted of two blocks of college necessities and proceded to "Pearls", the only other place in town to eat besides the college cafeteria. I would always get a Coke on the spot as Diet Coke had not yet been invented. It was a great sensational burp that relieved the cafeteria crap that I had paid for.
In addition, Pearls had the best pecan pie I had ever had. She baked them fresh daily since pecans were ubiquitous around the area. Perhaps it was the time, but I have never experienced pecan pie like that since.
The thread and post regarding the drink brought back these memories and the purpose of the drink.
