I was desperate for a pizza Sunday night, and pretty much nothing was open, so I tried the 7-11 on Main Street in Glastonbury. I couldn't recall ever having had 7-11 pizza.
It's kind of remarkable - or rather, it would be, if the end product were any good. They transfer it from a freezer to an oven, where it bakes for three minutes
. That and $5.55 will give you a pizza-like product, as authorized for distribution by the Seven & I Holdings Co.
... yeah. Never again. Spongy, chewy, mealy crust; sauce that reminded me of those Little Charlie's individual frozen pizzas (anyone else remember those?); four cheeses that all managed to be tasteless.
Tombstone or Red Baron would have been better. Little Caesars would have been better. Even that godforsaken "Marketside" stuff from Wal-Mart would have been better. Odd as it may sound, there is a gradient of quality even in the lowest tier of pizza.
I've no choice but to balance out this mistake by going to New Haven this weekend.
