RE: Deli Sandwiches,,,,,,,,,,,Why?
I say, why not?
Tkitna, thanks for the reference to my pic. I took that last fall during my late night trip to Sarge's Deli in NYC. When I say late night, I ate that around 2:30 am. I was just coming off of a second shift and hadn't had dinner yet. My gf's brother had been telling me about this place for some time and had recommended the pastrami sandwich and fries. I ended up getting the sandwich pictures, fries and a NY egg cream. It was all very tasty and good. I only ate about 1/2 of the sandwich and had the rest for lunch the next day. It's a pretty common thing to see in the NY style deli (Sarges, Katz's, Carnegie Deli, Harold's NY Style Deli, etc...) Huge portions. Most people go in groups and order these and most of the food is priced to share. Take a look at the review for Harold's in Edison, NJ here of RF and look at the double and triple decker sandwiches. They'll put the one in the pic you posted to shame!! I've been to Harold's a few times and even saw a table with two petite ladies sharing a triple decker of pastrami, corned beef and brisket. What most places will give (or charge a dollar or two extra) for bread to go and people take most of it home to have during the week. Do a search here on the site, probably under sandwiches or delis and you'll find plenty of threads about Harold's, ad nauseum.
