I grew up in the Hyattsville/Mount Rainier/Brentwood area in Maryland. I remember Bodanski's pizza, square, not round (like a poor man's Ledo pizza). I went to the Shakey's Pizza in Wheaton(?) from time to time. But my ALL TIME favorite place to eat was Ray's Ranch House in Hyattsville, 3118 Hamilton Street, to be exact. The best cheeseburgers I have ever had, the Ranchburger! Hand formed hamburger patties cooked on an indoor grill, barbeque sauce on each side, with cheddar cheese, and served on a sesame seed bun. Hot looking waitresses in tight jeans.
Their best-seller was the Honcho; a burger with ham, turkey, lettuce and cheddar cheese. HUGE! And for dessert, humongous trays of apple crisp, made on the premises. Ray ( who was missing an index finger on one hand) sold the joint to a foreign family, who switched meat vendors (to save $$, I assume), and basically ran it the to the ground. It went belly up soon after.
So sad. Anyone else remember it? We are talking about over 25 years ago. God, I'm getting old.
