For the first time in years, we ate at Penny's on Diversey, and I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed. First, I notice that the restaurant, which about 15 years ago had expanded one storefront to the west, is now back to its original layout, and no longer has that extra space. I suppose business isn't as good as it used to be, so they cut back on the size of the restaurant. I don't think I've ever seen that before.
And when I got my pad thai, I was somewhat alarmed to note the sprouts to noodles content. The proportion of the dish made up of sprouts seemed to have risen quite a bit, with the noodle quotient down to match. Next time I go, I'm going to ask for fewer sprouts, and hopefully that will rectify the issue. But my guess is, the restaurant is not only cutting back on rent, they're cutting back on expensive ingredients (I suppose noodles, while cheap, are more expensive than sprouts).
Anyone else notice anything different about this place lately?
