mobile truck delivery idea

im tossing around the idea of employing a three wheel bike for "mile radius delivery" from the trucks current location.....
after i set up at location, i would tweet and FB the location, and offer free delivery within say a mile radius for the time i am at that location.... the kid doing deliveries would take the phone orders, process payment, hand order off to me, then pedal like a mad man........
since this is a military town, could call it something like the "drop zone"...... would be mainly a downtown thing
has anyone tried this, have any thoughts on it ? am i grossly underestimating the logistics of something like this ?

Just keep in mind (assuming your health department actually enforces the code of course) that you have to hold all prepared food at 135 degrees or higher. If you're doing delivery, you'll need to invest in the proper delivery bags/boxes to maintain temperature.

I know of places that deliver. Both with cars and bikes and not just here but all over. Can be done. But also you need to understand the liabilty here. Better check with a Insurance Broker and discuss this with them.
Have to add, look locally at mostly Pizza at this point. Which of all of them deliver. The big ones. Small operators cannot handle ins.
Then search the sandwich places that cater.
But to give an Idea. there are many others out there. But you said Cycle.  I would hire Alberto Contador. He probally won't be working for awhile.

If you don't mind, what is your twitter account id? I am attempting to follow as many food trucks as possible.

lol, i dont even have a twitter yet....
my current facebook page for the truck is (goburger alocationnearyou).....
after i decided on a name, i found out there is a goburger food truck up in new york city, not a big deal real estate wise, but i see problems with web page (twitter/face book) confusion....
so right now i am trying to figure out if i want to go with a different name, or make my current name a lot easier to differentiate between the two...

This sounds like a great idea, but one problem I see. If you're only going to have one cyclist, you have the very real possibility of receiving more orders than he can deliver in a timely manner. I would go with at least three cyclists.

What happened to BackAlleyBurger. I heard he fell over dead from the pure exhaustion of his build? LMAO I miss his post he is surely done and serving food by now. Maybe he is just down the road from one of us here on RF? Anyone heard anything from him?

I bet he's still screwing around with the exhaust or dash lights or something else non essential to cooking.... he's been "working" on that truck for a year and a half and had net even started the kitchen........look for a burger sometime in 2013????

I tried this for a few months. Then I gave deliveries to a local contractor that delivers for area restaurants.
The smaller radius of a bike was one issue. You are limiting your service. So, you might be delivering to people that might otherwise just walk to your location. If people are accustomed to other delivery options (car based), they might not understand or accept the limited range.
Finally, there just wasn't enough business to sustain the extra help needed for a dedicated delivery person on a bike. And as someone else brought up, the idea of getting two orders in a relatively short time would put quite a delay on the second order.
