Until I finally got one of my relatives to take me to one when I was visiting them in Florida, I had never been to Olive Garden because I only know of one in San Francisco and it's out in the city's one suburban-style mall which is nowhere near me. SF is not friendly to chain retail (including restaurants) and, in fact, bans it under the zoning code from many neighborhoods.
I was not impressed and I would not choose to go to another one. I really can't imagine people in New York City, where there are so many good independent Italian and Italian-American restaurants, going to Olive Garden.
By the way, I am not someone who is biased against chains and I freely admit patronizing a number of chain fast food places from time to time (sometimes cheap junk food just seems right), but when it comes to "family dining" sorts of chains, I'm nearly always disappointed. I just don't care for the food most of them serve.
