I would bet these are great - I  had some shrimp and okra hushpuppies that were pretty good too - if you think about it the possibilities are endless for the innards of a hushpuppy.....

This sounds as revolutionary as jalapeno poppers.

How I'd love to dip one of those BBQ pork pups into some Eastern Carolina pepper/vinegar sauce!

That sounds fabulous!  Like having "barbecue corn bread" (as in Tennessee) all in one delicious bite.

If I weren't congenitally terrified of deep-frying, AND if I had access to good smoked shoulder, I'd make these in a minute.

I'm kinda a hushpuppy purist. Not fond of add ins, at all, other than the usual onion. Even corn kernels takes it too far for me. I'd be much more likely to put that nice pork shoulder between a couple of Johnny cakes, rather than mix it into the batter. Still, looks like a solid recipe that would be enjoyed by many.

Was interesting to see the etymology of corn dodgers. Hadn't ever heard anyone dissect them before. Cool!

Great article. I had known the interpretation of the name as a bit to feed the dogs. As for me, I'll settle for a reasonable classic configuration. To each his own but pork in the puppies sounds like a yuppy 'mashup' to me. Anything to be different.

Sorry. Just saw the recipe was posted by a member, not some strange website. Bear in mind, I tend to be a stick in the mud. As I say, to each his own.

Too be clear, I love traditional hushpuppies but every so often I like to gussy them up a little and put meat in them. They're a 'thing' in western Alabama, and that's where I discovered them.
