Every year the candy/snack industry gets together for a three-day trade show at the Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago. This year the expo took place May 20-23 and saw the reintroduction of two icons in the hard candy industry: Regal Crown Sours and Reeds hard candy rolls. Regal Crown Sours had been off the market since some time in the 1980s, while Reeds had been gone since 2006. Both came individually wrapped in long rolls, larger/thicker than lifesavers. With any luck, you should be seeing their return to stores near you. The Regal Crown Sours come in Cherry, Grape, Orange and Lemon flavors; the Reeds in Cinnamon, Butter Scotch, Root Beer, and Caramel. Hope they do the originals justice – there have been some successes in reintroducing iconic candy (such as Bonomo Turkish Taffy) and some real flops (Black Cow suckers, for example).
