Costco's often carry large bundles of the natural casing Thumann's as do most supermarkets in the New Jersey/New York area!

Another supermarket chain source for Long Island, NY: Waldbaums. They are advertising Thumann's natural casing franks, pork or beef, $5.99 this week in their circular.

Quick question for the Thumans experts. Growing up I spent my summers in New Jersey down by the shore. Even though I live in Phoenix I was able to develope a love for what I always thought was Thumans. Recently after a lot of work and emails I was able to acquire the pork\beef dogs mentioned by John Fox. Those were good and I loved them but I seem to remember some sort of gigantic natural casing dog that seemed to be 10 inches maybe even a foot long. I suppose the dogs could've seemed big because I was little but I doubt that's the case.

Clues that may help:

I spent my summers in Manasquan

My grandparents usually shopped at shoprite though they'd occasionally shop at Acme

They were really big dogs

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Probably Schichaus natural casing dogs. They're a bit bigger than Thumann's. They were and still are sold in Shop rites. We're close to Manasquan and these Schickhaus are still around...and delicious!!!!!

More than likely Schickhaus. They've always been marketed as Boardwalk style griddle franks.

My Thumanns vs. Liehs and Steigerwalds 4th of July Wienie Werks at Watkins Glen:

As threatened, we had our second annual weinie roast at the IndyCar race at the Glen. Last year I brought my L&S dogs. This year my friend brought some Thumanns too.

L&S on the left, Thumanns to the right, and an Italian sausage...source unknown...

My plate Thumanns on the left, L&S on the right

My hosts plate..(apologies for the ketchup and bacon cheese..thing ...sigh....)

Top Gear re-runs to entertain us

Fireworks...

...Oh and IndyCars.

I throughly enjoyed the Thumanns, it has a full, round taste, a little saltier then L&S..great dog. The L&S is a more seasoned dog, the seasonings are very prevalent as opposed to Thumanns.. Both great dogs...nice 4th of July!!

Nice pictures, Cosmos. Both great dogs indeed. I agree with your descriptions. L&S has more garlic and has a tangy taste (vinegar?). You are lucky to be able to get both.

I moved to Florida about eight years ago from New Jersey and have lorned for the great taste of a Thumanns hot dog. I cannot get them anywhere near to my home but if I could find a place on the other side of the state I would travel to purchase them. I love them that much! Your idea sound great to me and would have a steady customer.

Hi, I live in Fort Lauderdale and used to order them from Albertson's in Oakland Park, but they stopped carrying all thumann's. It was the jumbo ones in the BLUE AND WHITE PACKAGE AND THEY FRIED UP JUST LIKE RUTTS HUT!!  Then I found them at a new place called Gennaro's Farm Market in Tamarac on state road 441.  Well they changed hands and stopped carrying the Thumann's!!!!  Anyone who can compare Boar's Head with Thumann's .. Just doesn't know Hot Dogs at all.  I could never be satisfied with Boar's Head anything!!  They should call it Bore's Head.  Dry and tastless cold cuts.  Soooooo overrated and too expensive for the quality.   Anyway, IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO ORDER THUMANN'S ?????????? PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!!! Thanks, Bill

I'm thinking that Fabs, the new hot dog spot in Reseda, CA  (A part of Los Angeles) is using Thurmann's.

They are offering a lot of the things found at Rutt's including The Ripper and when I asked what kind of hot dogs they were using he told me...

I don't say, but I bring them in from New Jersey once a week.

The Ripper is a pork mix, but all of the other dogs are all beef.

If they are Thurmann's I say...  sell them all over the country!  They are delicious and nothing like other dogs found in Los Angeles.

They should sell with no problem.

Edited to add another 'N' to Thumann's.

The dogs at Fabs are Thumann's special deep fry dog; the same one that Rutt's Hut and others use. It is a mixture of beef and pork, but it is a different recipe than the Thumann's griller (also beef and pork) that is shown in the pictures above. The griller is a little more flavorful than the deep fry dog and is made for the grill. Thumann's has 3 recipes. The deep fry dog, the griller, and an all beef dog.

I know this is an old thread.
I got to try the Thumann dog at the NY Giants football game this last Sunday. It was great! I was staying in the Chelsea district in the city and went in several grocery stores in the area. No one had Thumann's hot dogs in that area. Is it more of a NJ dog?
