Restaurants categories facing extinction
As with many threads I start, this was inspired by something somebody (Michael Hoffman in this case) alluded to in another thread.
I am not talking about individual restaurants here, but entire categories which might have been common at one point, but, for whatever reason, restaurant types have been shrinking to the point of extinction. Some are due to changes in public taste, like German restaurants. Some are due to competition from big chains, like the drug store soda fountain/lunch counter.
What types of eateries have you seen move towards extinction (and whether or not you think it is a good thing)?
