National Hot Dog Day July 23rd

July is National Hot Dog Month. Wednesday, July 23rd is National Hot Dog Day. I heard it through the grapevine that on Wednesday, Time Magazine Online will be featuring a story about encased meats. http://time.com

Why limit it to a month and a day?
To me every month and every day could be hot dog day/month 365!

    MetroplexJim,
When the world blows up and there's no need to teach economics any longer, perhaps you could teach a class in Hot Dog Etiquette!

Here's some real hot dog etiquette.  Only in Alaska!!!

Michael Anderson is a great guy! We finally met in the summer of 2012 and his reindeer sausage is absolutely outstanding. If you ever make it to Anchorage, a visit to his cart is a "must do." Mike also happens to be buddies with Biker Jim.

I've eaten reindeer sausages from carts in Anchorage but I don't know if it was Mike Anderson's or not.

My one dollar chili cheese Coney at Sonic.  Not the best hot dog but far from the worst.

Thanks for the pics, eruby. We had decided to go to Sonic too for dinner and their $1 dogs. I'm looking forward to the chili cheese dog and the all American dog!

To celebrate National Hot Dog Day we went to Dirty Frank's Hot Dog Palace in Columbus.

    The interior.

They only serve Vienna all-beef dogs.  I had mine split, grilled, with Coney sauce and fresh jalapenos.

MH had his with kraut, relish, onions and brown mustard.

    The hand-cut fries were exceptional!

These were NOT $1 dogs from Sonic.  Two beers, two dogs, one order of fries: $18.  I thought it was a rather cheap and good lunch!

Wow, Lisa, those are good looking dogs! Tonight is Sonic, but tomorrow for lunch I'm going to one of my favorites, Jerry's Woodfired Dogs for one of their Signature Dogs. I'll post a pic!

    Ed,
I'm not a fan of hot dogs.  As a matter of fact, I kind of dislike them.  My split, grilled Vienna dog with the toppings was actually quite good.  Not as good as Wimmer's in Iowa, but good nevertheless!  I would go back.

What a small world! In November of 2008, I had the opportunity to meet and schmooze with the Dirty Franks Team when the came to Chicago to tour the Vienna Beef plant. http://cmhgourmand.com/tag/dirty-franks/

Well, had my Sonic dogs for dinner. Not great but OK. a chili cheese dog and an All American dog, with a salted caramel shake and fries. Friday I'm going to Jerry's Woodfired Dogs---Lisa, it's a lot more like your place that you went to.

Sorry if I insulted you by posting my $1 Sonic dog.

Sonic was the only place, except for maybe 7-11,  I had time to go to to get a hot dog to celebrate National Hot Dog Day.

Both you meal and EdSails' meal looks good to me.

The only reason I got a Brooklyn Brown Ale is because we both ordered an Abita Purple Haze but they only had one left which I let MH have.  Turns out the Purple Haze was nasty.  MH took one swig and cringed, I took one and did the same.  Imagine beer with Grape Nehi mixed in.    When the waiter passed by MH ordered a Brooklyn Brown too.  We've had other Abita beers.....Oyster Stout and Turbo Dog which we both like, but not that Purple Haze!  The Brooklyn Brown was very good.

I went to the Clam Digger in Manchester, CT for National Hot Dog Day.  The dog was great.  The clam Digger is Doogies in Newington, CT attempt to franchise.
